The Making of a Voice

You know what I’ve realised? If God wants to make you a voice in an area, He won’t just hand you a microphone, He’ll hand you evidence.
Sometimes, God doesn’t make experts through impartation. He makes experts through experience. And honestly? That stings, because impartation is instant. Experience is slow. Impartation feels glamorous. Experience feels like a grind. But here’s the thing: people don’t trust slogans, they trust scars. People will trust evidence, not just titles.
Look at Abraham. We call him the father of faith. Not because God sprinkled faith dust on him, but because Abraham lived it.
God promised him a child, and then made him wait decades. Grey hairs, awkward family conversations, even moments where Abraham tried to “help God out” with his own plan. But when Isaac finally came, Abraham had earned the title “father of faith” with first-class experience. It wasn’t proclamation. It was proof.
Even Jesus didn’t skip the process. Scripture says He learned obedience through the things He suffered (Heb. 5:8). Think about that. The Son of God didn’t learn obedience by downloading heavenly PDFs. He learnt it by walking through pain, rejection, betrayal, and even death.
If Jesus Himself had to walk through it, why would we expect a shortcut?
And it’s not just Bible characters. Look at Kenneth Hagin Sr. Known worldwide as a pioneer of faith and healing. But his story didn’t start on a stage. It started as a teenager, paralysed and dying from a heart condition. Doctors gave up. His own family gave up. But Hagin grabbed hold of God’s Word, believed, and was miraculously healed.
So when he later preached about faith and healing, it wasn’t theory. He had evidence. He knew what it was to be on a sick bed, gasping for life. His message carried weight because it was forged in suffering.
Same with Oral Roberts, his ministry wasn’t built on wishful thinking. It was built on lived testimony. When he prayed for the sick, he wasn’t guessing. He was speaking from a place of “I’ve been there. I know God heals.”
God doesn’t raise parrots. He raises witnesses.
This is the part that stings: there are some messages God will not let you preach by reading a book. He will put you through it.
Not because God is cruel, but because He wants your voice to carry authenticity. When you speak, it won’t just be theory, it will be truth tested in fire.
And here’s the thing: evidence silences doubt. People can argue with your opinions, but they can’t argue with your scars.
So why does God insist on this route? Because when the blessing comes, no one can accuse Him of being unfair. When Abraham finally held Isaac, no one could say, “Well, that was just favouritism.” No, it was evidence of faith rewarded.
And when God raises your voice in a particular area, no one will be able to say it was hype or accident. They’ll see the trail of tears, waiting, setbacks, and scars that birthed the message.
Here’s what I’m learning: every voice carries a cost. If you want God to make you a voice, expect Him to first make you an example.
And that’s tough. Because let’s be honest, it’s easier to just read a book, take notes, and get on a stage. But God doesn’t raise parrots. He raises witnesses.
So maybe what you’re going through right now isn’t punishment. Maybe it’s qualification. Maybe God is giving you the evidence that will one day make your voice unshakable in that area.
So don’t despise the process. Don’t think the delay or the suffering is wasted. You’re not just living through random hardship, you’re collecting evidence. Evidence that will back up your message, silence your critics, and validate your calling.
Because when God finally raises your voice, it won’t just be proclamation. It will be power.
And that kind of voice? The world can’t ignore.
